The Prince who was Loved by the Sea

This one is an illustration I did for my story for Fantasy Fiesta 2012. The story won 1st place, and I'm happy for that. The organizers for the 2012 contest did not publish a book for the winners' stories, regrettably; but still, a lot of people read my story, gives me lots of support and feedback, and cheered for me via the Kastil Fantasi web and Twitter when I got the first place.

The story is set somewhere in South Sulawesi (Celebes). A prince is trying to free his family from a curse, with the help of his half-man-half-sea-serpent best friend. He made some bad choices and ended up losing a lot of things dear to him, but he gained something unexpected in return. ^^

Since it is basically a fantasy story, the culture is only partially based on the culture of the Bugis/Makassar people of Sulawesi. I did a lot of improvisation on some parts, but I'm happy a lot of people enjoyed it.

The illustration itself was done by pencil on paper. Shading, paper textures, and frames digitally added using Photoshop. I forgot whose paper textures and frames I used, (I made this artwork almost a year ago) >_< I didn't mean to steal someone else's work, so maybe if someone can point me where the credit's due, please do so. I'm going to search for it anyway, but it maybe took me a bit of time.
